About Me
Dr. Vijay Balaji is the Clinical Lead and head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at SIMS Nugambakkam.. He is well known across the medical fraternity for the sheer commitment towards his profession. Having performed 300 surgeries per year over 2 decades, Dr Balaji has wide global experience but credits most of his learning to his Indian roots.
Motivated by the way the hospital assimilated its modern infrastructure, he is also in awe of the way SIMS extends support to its consultants, particularly, the Nungambakkam centre. Accepting every complexity as a challenge, Dr. Balaji, for the past 3 months of service at SIMS, has conducted several successful surgeries.
He also performs promising Stem Cell therapy, one of the most sophisticated restorative techniques available in medicine today. Recently, the treatment was so successful that the patient is wanting to come back to the hospital for similar complaints with another member of the family.
One of the first surgeries undertaken by him at SIMS Nungambakkam, Stem Cell therapy is considered as the safest alternative to steroids, for the treatment of plantar fasciitis, which is also a common cause of heel pain. The procedure is non-invasive and highly effective in reducing pain and improving the functionality of the heel. While several other conservative non-invasive treatments have been identified, Stem Cell therapy, remains an efficacious healing protocol, to date.
Dr. Vijay Balaji is an alumnus of Sri Ramchandra University. He went on to train at the University of Malaya and University of Geneva, where he is still a teaching faculty. He was awarded the “Best Doctor in Tamil Nadu” by the state government between 2013 – 2014.
